More Information & Inspiration (February 2023)
Here are several articles related to triathlon training and planning for seniors that I came across over the past month. Several of these from this month’s finds should also inspire you to become and stay fit.
Information
This TriDot podcast is based on a conversation with senior triathlete Kurt Madden, one of Our Coaches. Kurt and pro triathlete, Dede Griesbauer, share reasons why they and other older athletes turn in some of their best performances after age 50.
Sleep is an essential part of our rest and recovery. In Triathlon For a Healthy Brain – Pat & Joan Hogan’s Story, we learn that during sleep, our cerebral lymphatic system clears out from the brain, toxins and unused proteins generated during the waking hours. This process only works during sleep, making it important to get enough quality sleep each day.
However, there are several contributors to poorer quality sleep as we age. So what are we to do? This article discusses some ways to mitigate these factors.
This article addresses a hot – and possibly controversial – topic in the world of sports nutrition, the best source of protein. Feel free to share your thoughts about the article in the Comments section below.
Inspiration
This video does not include any senior athletes. However, it shows an incredible comeback from what first appeared to be the end of the race for a college relay team. It reminds us to never quit, despite appearances that tell us and others differently. Don’t miss this video. Be prepared for a lump in your throat.
