Here are several articles related to triathlon training and planning for seniors that I came across over the past month. Several of these from this month’s finds should also inspire you to become and stay fit.

TRAINING & RACING
- Your guide for running in the heat
(from a Swiftwick email)
“Beat the heat with these simple tips and gear built for summer miles.
Listen to Your Body – Heat can be tough on your system. If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or overly fatigued, stop and rest.
Hydrate Early and Often – Running in the heat means your body loses water fast. Start hydrating before your run, sip small amounts regularly, and don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
Dress Smart for Hot Weather – Lightweight, breathable fabrics are key. Think moisture-wicking shirts and shorts that dry fast — and don’t forget your hat and sunscreen!
Plan Your Runs Around the Heat – Run early mornings or later evenings when temperatures are cooler. If you must run midday, take it slower and focus on easy miles.
Choose the Right Socks – Wear socks that offer breathable support with firm compression and moisture-wicking fibers to reduce fatigue and prevent blisters — like our best-selling Aspire line.

NUTRITION & HYDRATION
An imbalanced gut microbiome can be the source of digestive disorders, chronic inflammation, and even mental health conditions. This post from the Unconventional Dietician includes a process for balancing the mix of bacteria in our digestive system to address health issues.
REST & RECOVERY
This is a puzzling study, one that shows that the number of hours of sleep required for good physical and mental health varies across the cultures of the world.
“There’s over an hour-and-a-half difference between how much sleep people in Japan and France get in a night, which is a striking gap,” said Steven Heine, a professor of social psychology at the University of British Columbia and co-author of the study. “We also found people who slept closer to their country’s norms tended to be healthier.”
Inspiration
Erin Boeckman pulled, pedaled, and pushed her older brother Daniel Russell through the CapTex Triathlon in Austin, Texas in May.
This is one of the special features of triathlon that I observed through my experience doing triathlons in each of the 50 states of America.
