More Information & Inspiration (May 2023)

Here are several articles related to triathlon training and planning for seniors that I came across over the past month. Several of these from this month’s finds should also inspire you to become and stay fit.

Information

If you have read Pat Hawks’ triathlon story and listened to my conversation with coach Kurt Madden, both highlighted in this issue of the Senior Triathletes Highlights newsletter, you already know how important yoga is to these triathletes. Take a listen to how others are using yoga for training in one of the latest TriDot podcasts.

According to this article from the Cleveland Clinic, “A diet rich in whole grains improves gut health, protects your heart and may reduce cancer risk”. Joy and I enjoy quinoa, oat groats, and sourdough bread from our sprouted whole wheat.

What are your favorite whole grains? How do you prepare them?

Another part of Pat Hawks’ story is the way she uses hiking to supplement swim, bike, and run training to build endurance. This article gives some tips for being a safe and courteous hiker.

Where is your favorite hike?

Inspiration

I raced with Ralph Ward at my Nevada triathlon in the Triathlon Across the USA adventure. At age 70, I am inspired by those in their 80s who are competing at a high level, no matter if it’s in triathlon or golf.
