More Information & Inspiration (December 2024)

Here are several articles related to triathlon training and planning for seniors that I came across over the past month. Several of these from this month’s finds should also inspire you to become and stay fit.

Information

TRAINING & RACING

In this post from Fast Talk Laboratories, the author says that it takes training to embrace being uncomfortable during our swim, bike, and run training. “[T]apping into why we do our sport of choice is central to our progression as a mentally strong athlete.”

NUTRITION & HYDRATION

According to the author of this Swanson post, many consider elderberry to be one of the world’s most effective herbs for promoting immune health. Its fruit is a concentrated source of antioxidant flavonoids to support immune health and reduce cell damage caused by free radicals. It is also a source of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, calcium, potassium and iron.

REST & RECOVERY

  • Dr. Matthew Walker, Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California Berkely on sleep and endurance sports:

“Sleep is probably the very best legal performance-enhancing drug we know of that not enough athletes are abusing.” (from the Diary of a CEO podcast)

Inspiration

This movie is based on the inspirational story of competitive swimmer Gertrude Ederle. In 1926, Miss Eberle became the first woman to swim across the English Channel.
